FROM: the town that won't let you leave

A survival horror that's really about what happens when people can't escape each other.

A town in the middle of nowhere that you can drive into but never drive out of. At night, things that look exactly like friendly neighbours come knocking. If you open the door, you die. That's the setup for FROM, and the fact that it refuses to fully explain any of this is precisely why it's so compelling.

The mystery is secondary

There's a version of this show that just wants to solve the puzzle—where is the town, what are the rules, how do we get out. FROM definitely has those questions running in the background, but it spends way more time looking at what happens to a community stuck in an impossible, open-ended nightmare. People form strange alliances, panic, try to make power grabs, and barely hold each other together. The monsters are the immediate threat, but the claustrophobia of the town is the real problem.

The monsters don't act like monsters

The creatures in FROM are deeply unsettling mostly because they just smile and ask to come inside like old friends dropping by for a cup of sugar. The show leans heavily into that gap between how they look and the horrific things they do. It never stops being effective. Creating a sense of dread that actually lasts across multiple seasons is incredibly hard to do, but this show somehow manages to make every sunset feel genuinely tense.

Accepting the confusion

This is a very slow burn. It trusts you to sit with not knowing what's going on. Some things get answered eventually, and some things just don't. If you're looking for a neatly tied-up thriller where all the puzzle pieces snap together in the finale, this will probably just annoy you. But the messiness and the lingering questions are the whole point.
